Methodological Sheet – Hepatic Encephalopathy, Diagnosis and Treatment 2017

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is one of the most serious complications of advanced liver disease. It reduces the quality of life for the patient and their surroundings. In patients with liver cirrhosis, HE is a manifestation of disease decompensation. It is associated with an increasing number of hospitalizations and affects patient mortality. Its economic and societal impact is significant. http://www.herba.sk/prezentacie/2017-ml-64-hepatalna-encelopatia-herba/2017-ml-64-hepatalna-encelopatia-herba.html

March 2009. Celiac disease (primary malabsorption syndrome, non-tropical sprue, gluten-sensitive enteropathy, gluten enteropathy) is a lifelong disease characterized by permanent autoimmune-mediated gluten intolerance, which leads to damage to the small intestinal mucosa and alteration of the immune system. The disease occurs in genetically predisposed individuals who consume prolamins found in wheat, rye, barley, and oats.

Rational Treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

April 2005. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition caused by the repeated backflow of stomach contents from the stomach into the esophagus – gastroesophageal reflux. The regurgitating fluid (refluxate) is acidic in 90% of cases – containing hydrochloric acid (HCl) and pepsin. In about 10% of cases, it is an alkaline refluxate, which occurs when bile salts and pancreatic enzymes regurgitate from the duodenum into the stomach (duodenogastric reflux) and subsequently into the esophagus.

These include the following GIT lesions: esophageal varices (EV), gastric varices (GV), portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG), and others (e.g., ectopic varices). This MS does not concern the treatment of bleeding complications of prehepatic portal hypertension.

Treatment of Chronic Viral Hepatitis B (Archive)

December 2004. Scientific progress in the field of CHB treatment has brought several new findings and changes in perspective: refinement of etiological diagnosis (primarily the use of PCR), introduction of interferons with a long biological half-life (pegylated interferons), and new molecules from the antiviral group (e.g., adefovir dipivoxil), which necessitated a reassessment of treatment indication criteria and monitoring requirements.
